Living in Beijing, air pollution is one of our major health concerns. There are few days a year where the air quality is actually safe for us to breath unfiltered. Therefore, we really appreciate the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and their proposition to set carbon standards for power plants. We hope Beijing will follow by taking stronger measures. Unfortunately, however, big polluters are working to block EPA scientists from setting these new standards.

7: Asia Pulp and Paper is using ILLEGAL rainforest timber at their pulp mill!
World’s leading paper producer “Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) have been caught using illegally protected Ramin trees, contributing to the ongoing deforestation in Indonesia. Some major companies, even those with ambitious CSR programmes such as Walmart and Danone, still buy paper products from APP.

Canadian mining company Goldcorp is planning to leave Guatemalan’s in the Western highlands with a multi-million dollar bill, or a similar value in environmental damage, after extracting all the coal from the Marlin mine.
